What is a birth Doula?
According to Dr. Christine Morton, author of the book Birth Ambassadors, a birth doula is a companion who supports a birthing person during labor and birth. Birth doulas are trained to provide continuous, one-on-one care, as well as information, physical support, and emotional support to birthing persons and their partners.*
We liken a birth doula to that of a tour guide or a wedding planner. Your birth doula is with you from the very beginning as you start to think about and prepare for exactly what you'd like out of your birth.
Your doula has been through this process many times before and she knows all of the ins and outs of where you're going. She's able to offer tips and tricks along the way. From various positions to try, to questions to ask your care provider, all the way to giving you a better idea or what's coming next. We know that you want to be an active participant in your birth and we will help you so that you can worry less and enjoy the trip more.
You'll meet with your doula as many times as you would like prior to your big day and she'll provide you with information, resources, and support leading up to the day your ''journey'' begins, and she'll even go with you if you'd like.
Since she's done this before, your doula knows many of the people that you'll meet along the way.
She's there with you as soon as you're ready for support.... supporting you and your husband or partner to have the best experience you possibly can.
A birth doula prepares you for your birth and adds and extra layer of security and predictability to something that, inevitably, is intense and upredictable. All along the way, your and your baby's health and safety are our first priority.
